If war comes to you

Most people never think about the rules that govern war—until they are broken. If War Comes to You turns these rarely discussed laws into lived experiences, placing the viewer in the middle of life-and-death decisions. Through the eyes of a civilian teenager, a soldier, or an aid worker, you see how choices, large and small, can determine who is protected, who is harmed, and what survival really means.

The task of explaining and shaping a story about the rules of war was taunting, challenging, and extremely rewarding. Created together with Johan Büchler and produced in collaboration with the Danish Red Cross, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), and the European Legal Support Group (ELSG), the project invites viewers to step into three parallel narratives. Each path demands difficult decisions, revealing both the power and the limits of the Geneva Conventions when tested by the chaos of armed conflict.

From day one, this was more than a standard production. It was a chance to merge journalistic depth with cinematic storytelling in a way that speaks directly to the heart. Or as the Austrian Journalists’ Club later put it when awarding the New Media Journalism Award 2025:

“Outstanding, technically spectacular and socially relevant. Journalism in the digital age should not only report, but also move people.”
